On Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26, 2009) Toronto veterinarian Steve Sheridan was arrested, along with several other officers of the Toronto Humane Society, and charged with offenses including animal cruelty, the
Toronto Globe and Mail reported. These arrests came after a multi-part investigative series conducted by the
Toronto Globe and Mail in which the newspaper said it uncovered "widespread problems."
The idea that a veterinarian may have been involved in the alleged mistreatment of animals that occurred at the shelter is shocking. Sheridan was charged with "conspiracy to commit and indictable offense and cruelty to animals."
The Globe and Mail's investigation, available online, includes disturbing photos of animals taken inside the shelter. The link to the story appears below.
